What are the best vegetables to grow?

Easy, suitable, enjoyable, productive, valuable veg. are the best vegetables to grow.

See what I mean ...

Easy to grow vegetables are great for the first timer and staple for all - a great place to start.

carrots Early vegetables provide fresh veg. in winter/ spring and and an early start to planting for the new season and food for late spring/ early summer.

Suitable to your site, soils, climate and circumstances

Enjoyable - vital as no one will enjoy of glut of something they or their family dislike! Similarly if it is too much effort to grow - you may not succeed.

Productive - growing just one small pepper for all the effort is going frustrate you and fail to meet your family's hunger - so it would be off to the supermarket!

Valuable - whilst I'm not saying you have to sell your produce, you might as well produce tasty food that saves you money and the more the merrier - and is very satisfying. If you can sell some too that's a double win!

So I forgot one - Satisfying veggies are the best vegetables to grow - as they combine all the above.

But of course ultimately the best veg. to grow are your choice.

My top favourite veg. to grow include;

  • Asparagus - decadent living at low cost once established!
  • Globe artichoke - decorative, delicious and decadent!
  • Sprouting broccoli - I can't get enough, lightly cooked it's delicious rich in iron
  • Carrots - so fresh and tasty
  • New potatoes - a treat with butter and mint, yum!
  • Lots of fresh salad crops - healthy and tasty too
  • and a cheat - raspberries - add these delicious fruits too!
