How do you go about planting a vegetable garden?

Planting a vegetable garden needs to planned and implemented carefully to be successful.

It is all to easy just to stick some seed or plants in the ground and hope nature will provide a bountiful harvest - only to be disappointed.

However, with some thought, careful planning and preparation, you too can produce lovely fresh vegetables in your vegetable garden.

You need to cover a few basics;

• Decide what soil preparation is needed
• Choose the right vegetables - if you are not sure then...
• Start with some easy vegetables to build confidence
• Check normal planting times and confirm with actual seed packets.
• However, respect your local climate if you, like me, have a garden at higher altitude, or a long way from the equator, then the season is later and shorter with a higher risk of late spring and early winter frosts. In this case grow vegetable transplants to give plants a good start. Or maybe it is just to hot and dry.
• Decide when to plant vegetables based on ideal planting times combined with local conditions of your soil and climate.
• Then decide how to plant your vegetables to suit your conditions, vegetable garden and needs and most importantly to save effort.
• And of course remember to water your seeds or plants
