How easy is your
vegetable garden weed control?

Learn some vegetable garden weed control techniques to cut the hours spent on your hands and knees and ensure your vegetables flourish.

Whilst some enjoy weeding, most just want to grow veg.

The weed problem

Ever thought or heard these comments?

  • 'You will always have weeds!'
  • 'One years seeding is 7 years weeding'
Weeds are born survivors: they grow when nothing else will, they love poor crops, they love good moist freshly dug soil, they grow rapidly and they seed and spread prolifically.

You cleared and dug the ground, the weeds regrew ... You sowed the seed, watered well and turned your back for a few days and what do you find? ... weeds...everywhere ...

Feel you are losing the battle? ... weeds 10 : you 0 ...

So what can you do? ...

Do something different!

Go back to basics and think;

If I am good at growing weeds - how do I favour the vegetables!

Do some radical things;

  • cut out the light
  • cut down the water
  • cut down the cultivating

But, I hear you cry - how do my vegetables grow then?!

Weed control solutions that work

Clearing the ground;
  • cover the ground with old carpet or tarpaulin for 6 months
  • or spray off the perennial weeds with a glyphosate based weed killer and leave to die back before digging
  • encourage weeds to germinate and hoe off or spray off when dry

Minimising weed growth;

  • cultivate less
  • cover the dug ground with weed membrane and plant through
  • water vegetables only when and where needed
  • plant to cover the ground
  • weed little and often
  • hoe carefully between the rows

Give your vegetables a head start;

  • ensure your soil is in tip top fertile condition
  • plant transplants rather than seeds
  • water vegetables only when and where needed
